Khaikaa
If you have internet conection there maybe you should give pixlr a try: https://pixlr.com/ Â You don't have to download anything
Shilo
I love Aseprite:Â https://www.aseprite.org I haven't used it for Mac yet, so I cant vouch for it on Mac (I didn't even know it supported Mac). But I love using it for Windows. Â Try the trial before buying it.
emptyaccount
I would totally recommend Pyxel Edit! It is so easy to use and I personally think It's easier to make pixel art with it. Â https://pyxeledit.com/
pLeet
In the same principle as @Khaikaa, I recommand Piskel, an online tool which is free, no need to download anything. You can create various palettes (that you can download and upload on your computer), animation with what I guess they call oignon peel (your previous sprite will be display above your current sprite for reference), and some very usefull tools such as brighten and darken pixels, mirrors, and much more.  I often use it, and it never lets me down. Might be a bit tricky at the beginning, but you can do amazing things once you're used to it

CJ Elliott
Personally always used Pyxel edit -Â https://pyxeledit.com It's pretty cheap and comes with everything I would want in pixel art software, heard aesprite is good aswell but never used it.
