Here is a little look behind the scene at Ambardia Productions.  The new work stations! Ambardia Online is a VB6 MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) operated by Ambardia Productions. It is a windows-based 2D game with beautifully rendered 3D graphics.  Ambardia was created by James Newkirk and a talented group of developers such as Richy, dg1423, Anna Comnena, Darkkiller, Robin Peris, JC Denton Denton and Kaitol as well as a large group of dedicated alpha and beta testers.  Ambardia takes place in the fantasy-themed realm of Ambardia, which is divided into several different regions, and cities. Players can travel throughout Ambardia on foot, by using magical teleportation spells and devices, or mechanical means of transportation such as ships or warp pads. Each region offers different types of monsters, materials, and quests to challenge players. Unlike many other MMORPGs, there is no linear path that must be followed setting their own goals and objectives. Players can combat both monsters and other players, complete quests, or increase their experience in any of the available skills. Players interact with each other through trading, chatting, or playing combative or cooperative mini-games.  History and Development Ambardia began its history as a fan site for many other popular MMORPG games. As the name of Ambard grew in the gaming community over the next 6 years so to did the desire to produce its own online realm. On August 16, 2007 the production of Ambardia Online began. On October 21st just two months later Ambardia Online Alpha Version 1 was released to open testing. Using isometric graphics from Reiner Prokein, Ambardia set a new standard of 2D gaming with 3d rendered graphics.  As a full time commercial graphic designer, Ambard worked on a complete restructuring of the game with the assistance of his close friend, Richy R. Many of Reiner Prokeins graphics were replaced by a mix of custom and purchased 3D graphics. Ambardias popularity began to grow when dg1423 began working on the project to help out with coding issues and a new quest structure of custom menu's. This freed Ambard and Richy up to concentrate more on mapping and scripting. It was not long before Richy began to master the scripting code and introduced the games first mini adventure, The 21 Gates.  To support Ambardia's free content, advertisements appear throughout its extensive web site and a donation rewards system has been established. Server Ambardia Online is run 24/7 on its own custom built P4 server. Administrators from around the world have full access to the server at any time to continue to develop and improve the game.  Ambardia Reborn is now being developed (11/30/2012) Using the EO development suite. Gameplay New players begin on the Ambardia Start Island. They are led on a set path where they learn most of the skills needed to succeed in Ambardia. After the tutorial, players have access to npc's located in the towns they explore. These non-playable characters, or NPCs, can replace some basic equipment items if necessary and can give players appropriate information about their surroundings as well as start the players on their first quests.  Skills Skills in Ambardia are the abilities that enable players to perform activities in the game. Players gain experience (EXP) in a skill when they utilize the skill, e.g. mixing potions trains the alchemy skill, thereby increasing their level in that skill. As the skill level rises, the ability to retrieve better raw materials and produce better products increases, as does the experience awarded. The total skill level of a player partly symbolizes the player's status in the game. Some skills, such as woodcutting and fishing, enable the player to collect raw materials that can be processed into usable items using other skills, such as sawing and cooking, respectively. The items created can be used by the player or sold to other players in game for a profit. Other skills allow players to dig, move around the map with greater ease, steal from chests, cook their own food, and create their own potions. Combat Ambardia features a real-time combat system. Combat is an important aspect of the game, allowing players to retrieve items or gold dropped by dead creatures. Combat is also necessary to complete many quests. Players die when their hit points are reduced to zero. Lost hit points can be recovered by eating or drinking certain items. Players can use potions and spells to boost their combat ability and deferences. Players who die reappear in the Death Chamber; however, they do lose a percentage of their xp. Player versus player combat (sometimes called "PvP Combat") can now only be performed in specific controlled areas. Duel Arenas are in place and will soon be a major part of PVP and guild wars. Quests Quests are series of tasks with a story line that players can choose to complete. A few quests require players to work together. Quests are grouped into four categories based on requirements and difficulty. Novice quests act as extended tutorials for new players. Intermediate quests challenge players on a basic level, while experienced and master quests challenge the more experienced players and open up new areas of Ambardia. Once a player reaches level 35 and has completed all quests they archive the ranking of experienced veteran and receive a gold fringed character. Players receive various rewards for completing a quest. Rewards depend on the quest's difficulty and include gold, unique items, access to new areas, increases in skill experience and/or quest points. Quests form the storyline of Ambardia Interaction Many NPCs populate the realm of Ambardia. Some NPCs, such as shopkeepers and characters in quests, are unavailable for combat. However, most NPCs can be attacked and these are generally referred to as monsters, regardless of their race. Monsters range from common, low-level creatures, such as chickens and skeletons to unique, and often much more powerful monsters such as the Dragons, Gromdore, Omenian Knights or the Ice Mage. Monsters may either be aggressive or non-aggressive. Non-aggressive monsters simply ignore players unless they are attacked. Aggressive monsters may attack all players or may only attack players within a certain distance, depending on the circumstances or location. This can make certain areas throughout Ambardia dangerous or inconvenient to players with lower combat levels. Economy Ambardia's economy is based around items. Raw materials collected with extracting skills, such as alchemy or digging, are refined using other skills, such as cooking or smithing, respectively, or are sold as is to other players or stores. Refined products, such as potions or cooked food, are used by players in combat, quests, or other skills. Killing certain monsters for the items they drop can also be profitable. Some players collect certain items for merchanting and supplying mission seekers with the items they need to complete their next missions from the mission order. Sound and Music Ambardia has music and sound effects. Some of Ambardias original sound track such as "Entering the Gate" and "Walking a Lonely Road" were specially mixed by Darkkiller just for Ambardia. The music is designed to define the underlying cultures of the various locations accessible. Sound effects, such as rain and lightning can be heard when the weather turns. Combat noises ring out as battles are fought. As different locations are visited by the player, new music for that area is discovered. Community An official forums is provided by Ambardia. On the forums, members are able to participate in game discussions, play player-made forum games, arrange to buy or sell items, post suggestions for further game improvements, vote in polls and otherwise interact with the community. Every Mardi Gras, Halloween, St. Patricks and Christmas, Ambardia hosts a holiday event in a specific location in the world. Players who successfully complete the required tasks during the event receive an exclusive reward. Rules and cheating Ambardia has put in place a number of rules for player conduct, such as rules against offensive language, scamming, and bug abuse. To enforce the rules, Ambardia uses three types of moderators: Staff moderators, who are actual Ambardia employees; player moderators, who are trusted ordinary players that enforce the rules within the game; and forum moderators, who are trusted players who police the game forums. On the forums, Ambardia moderators are identified by gold names on their posts; in game, Ambardia moderators have gold GM over their names.  SEASONS As each season comes and goes in our own world it will also come and go in Ambardia. This should help give a refreshing change in the game and prepare you mentally for seasonal events and holidays in Ambardia.
